Subject: Urgent inquiry about ice bucket challenge
To whom it may concern,
First, my name is Young Ihn and
today I am emailing you as I'd like to make an inquiry about
the ice bucket challenge held by your association.
In fact, I am from Korea (South) and have lived in Northville, Michigan for 8 years
and I have a friend named Park Seung-il
who was a famous college basketball player and was appointed as the
youngest coach at Hyundai Mobis, a professional basketball team in Korea in 2002
after studying at Brigham Young University in Utah has fought ALS disease bravely since 2003.
Along with the progress of this disease,
from several years ago, he could have only blinked.
During his bedridden life with this disease,
he had communicated with the world using a Quick Glance
(computer mouse controlled by eye movement)
and even after his eye muscles weakened further,
he has not stopped communicating using an alphabet letter board
and he has run a personal website to promote an ALS awareness
and to communicate directly with other people including his fans.
(you can visit at http://cafe.daum.net/alswithpark)
Unfortunately, as there is no relevant facility or hospital to ALS disease in Korea yet,
many ALS patients have suffered greatly in terms of receiving affordable timely care or welfare.
Despite desperate plea and petition toward the government in this matter over the past several years,
the government has not been very cooperative in responding to their voice
with limited or even reduced budget for welfare.
Accordingly, Park Seung-il had put forth all his effort solely
in establishing a special hospital for ALS patients
and has helped other ALS patients while he himself was a patient.
Eventually, he established a foundation called the Seungil Hope Foundation in 2010,
which is a non-government funded, non-profit organization for ALS
and cofounded by Shawn who is a TV celebrity
(singer and a director of a top entertaining company in Korea:
he is a very pious Christian and has been engaged in many charities as a big donater himself,
which has inspired a lot of people to change their lives or to be connected to charity works)
in order to raise funds to build a special hospital for ALS disease (patients).
Please see below website of their foundation.
Although there is no English version of this website yet,
you can still see many of pictures of their promotional activities including concerts and
the pictures of the founders below.
http://www.sihope.or.kr/gnuboard4/html/introduction_01.html
However, despite their strenuous effort in fund-raising,
it has not been so easy to raise public awareness
and raise funds efficiently.
In the meantime, one of the participants in your ice bucket challenge
nominated a person named Tim, who is a singer in Korea a few days ago.
Then, given the characteristics of the event in nominating the next donater
within 24 hours, Tim nominated three other entertainers including
above-mentioned Shawn in Korea,
and naturally, they came to take the challenge or make a donation
to this Seungil Hope Foundation.
However, we are wondering if it would be okay to continue your ice bucket challenge
also in Korea as we already started it abruptly because its urgency.
Therefore, although this event was unexpectedly begun in Korea,
we'd like to ask you to advise us if it would be okay to continue this meaningful event also in Korea.
Personally, I firmly believe this event will be one of the best and most efficient opportunities
to spread the awareness and to raise funds substantially in a fun, friendly way.
I sincerely ask you to respond to us at your earliest convenience
as the challenge has been already started in Korea
and I do hope to hear good news from you.
Thank you for your patient attention to this email.
Most sincerely,
Young

Hello,
Thank you for your interest in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge!
This link will take you to more information about it http://www.alsa.org/fight-als/ice-bucket-challenge.html. ALS has never before experienced this level of visibility, and we’re so thankful to the thousands of people who’ve been doused with ice water and/or donated to raise awareness and fight this devastating disease.
People can certainly continue on with this challenge and do not require specific authorization from our Association.
